I "tried" to upgrade to the latest firmware for my M577 laser jet printer. It appeared to install correctly but each time a print job completed, the printer reset itself. Thinking that the firmware did not update correctly, I redid the update (using a fresh download of the firmware update). That caused the printer to fail to complete initialization and reported a 49.38.07 error. I contacted HP and was given not very helpful advice. I found the solution on the internet and I was able to update the firmware and the printer seems to be operating correctly. My printer came with a display that looks like "Future Smart 3" level firmware. But the upgrade page indicated that one could select FutureSmart 3, 4, or 5. I chose 5. Was that an error? If so, then HP has a problem. I was able to go back to Level 3 and make the printer work. Not impressed at all with HP at this moment.
