I received the following instructions when posting previously about issues I was having with my printer disconnecting from my computer.  I'm confused with what I'm reading.  When it says, 'temporarily connect your computer to your printer's local network connection...', are there other steps required to do that or are the steps immediately below?  If the latter, I don't see the network HP=Setup <Your printer name> in my list.  I also have a printer with a touchscreen, so if there are instructions that would be easier to follow where I could use the touchscreen, that might be best for someone who doesn't know what my printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) is 🙂

Connect the printer with the Wireless Setup Wizard (printers without a touchscreen)

Temporarily connect your computer or mobile device to your printer's local network connection and then run the Wireless Setup Wizard from the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS).

  1. Open the list of available network connections on your device.

Note: You can view the list of available networks in the Wi-Fi option of your device.

Select the network with HP=Setup <Your printer name> from the list, for example HP=Setup<EE_DeskJet 2700 series>, and then connect to the network. This connection is temporary and required to set up the network.

If your printer is not available in the list, restore the Wi-Fi setup mode. Press and hold the Wireless

     and Cancel

    msandholm_2-1739551156791.png

     buttons until the Power button

    msandholm_3-1739551156792.png

blinks, and then wait for the Wireless light to blink.

Open an internet browser, and then enter 192.168.223.1 in the address bar.

Note: If Your connection is not private message displays, click Show Advanced, and then Proceed to 192.168.223.1 (unsafe).

    1. The Printer EWS opens.

    2. Enter the PIN found on the label located inside the cartridge access area.

    3. Click Network > Wireless > Wireless Setup Wizard > Next.

    4. Select the name of your Wi-Fi network, and then enter the network password.

The printer connects to the Wi-Fi network, and the Wireless light stops blinking.

    5. If you are using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection, disconnect the VPN.

    6. Once the printer is connected to the network, you can add the printer to the HP Smart app. For more information, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

I don't have an exact date when these issues began, but I'd say 1-2 months ago.  No changes have been made to my printer other than running the diagnostics after the 3rd or 4th time this began happening.  No error codes or blinking lights have ever been shown.  No router changes have been made.

I reviewed the troubleshooting documents prior to posting here.  I followed HP-suggested steps to troubleshoot, but to no avail.

@msandholm, hello!

Thank you for getting back with the details. I appreciate your patience while we work on resolving this issue! Since you have already tried some troubleshooting steps, let's perform a power drain, fresh printer setup, and firmware update to ensure everything is configured correctly.

Power Drain (Hard Reset)

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cable from both the printer and the power source.
  2. If your printer has a detachable power brick, unplug it and wait for about 60 seconds.
  3. Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds (if applicable).
  4. Plug the power cable back into the printer and the power source.
  5. Turn on the printer and check if the issue persists.

Restore Printer Network Settings

For touchscreen printers:

  • Tap the Wireless or Setup icon.
  • Select Restore Network Settings and confirm.
  • Wait for the printer to restart.

For non-touchscreen printers:

  • Press and hold the Wireless and Cancel buttons until the Power button starts blinking.
  • Wait for the Wireless light to blink, indicating it’s in setup mode.

Reconnect Printer to Wi-Fi

  1. Open the Wi-Fi settings on your computer or mobile device.
  2. Look for a network named HP-Setup-<Your Printer Name>. If it's not listed, perform Step 2 again.
  3. Connect to this temporary network.
  4. Open a browser and type 192.168.223.1 in the address bar.
  5. Enter the PIN found inside the cartridge access area when prompted.
  6. Navigate to Network > Wireless > Wireless Setup Wizard and follow the instructions to connect to your home Wi-Fi.
  7. Once connected, the Wireless light should stop blinking.

Update Printer Firmware

  1. Open HP Smart App or go to HP Support Website and check for firmware updates.
  2. If an update is available, install it and restart the printer.

Reinstall the Printer Driver (Windows)

  1. Uninstall the existing HP drivers from Control Panel > Programs & Features.
  2. Restart your PC.
  3. Download and install the latest HP Smart App or HP Full Feature Software from the HP Support Website.
  4. Follow the setup wizard to add the printer again.

Once done, test the connection and let me know if the issue persists. Hope this helps! 😊

Looking forward to your update.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Issues persist.  I performed the power drain.  The issue did not resolve itself.  I completed the network setting restore and reestablished the Wi-Fi connection.  When attempting to update my firmware, it indicated the firmware was up to date (version WBP2CN2502AR).  I don't know which drivers you're requesting that I uninstall. I see HP Support Solutions Framework.  Is that what you're requesting that I uninstall?  If no, what should I be looking for?  I also don't see the software I'll be installing ('HP Smart App or HP Full Feature Software') on the HP site.  What is the exact name of the software you're suggesting I install?

Finally, when searching for drivers, I enter my printer (8715), but it pulls drivers for 8710/8720.  Am I seeing the needed drivers on the website?

Thanks.

@msandholm, Thanks so much for getting back with the detailed follow-up — and I really appreciate your patience as we continue working through this! 😊

To answer your questions and hopefully make things a bit simpler:

🛠 Let’s Start with the Software

You’re absolutely on the right track. The software we’re recommending is the HP Smart App, which you can safely download directly from this link:
👉 Download HP Smart App

It’s a great all-in-one tool to manage your printer, check status, update firmware, and reconnect it to Wi-Fi — much more user-friendly than doing it all manually through drivers and settings.

🔄 Regarding Drivers

You're correct to be cautious here — you do not need to uninstall HP Support Solutions Framework. That’s a helpful utility that supports HP tools but isn’t the main printer driver.

What you should look for in your Control Panel > Programs & Features is anything that says:

“HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 series Full Feature Software”

or “HP OfficeJet Pro 8715” (it may show as part of the 8710/8720 family, which is totally fine — they share drivers!)

If found, you can uninstall that, then restart your PC. After that, installing and setting up the printer through the HP Smart App will take care of the rest. 🙌

Take care, and have an amazing day!
