HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281cdw

Hi, I am an IT person and one of my client has this HP laserjet pro mfp m281cdw printer. It already set it up a password but i do not know. I was going to set up scan feature but it is asking PIN and I couldn’t find the PIN on any label existing on the printer. So I decided to factory reset printer but it is asking password and they do not know. How can I reset the printer and where can I find the PIN ?
Thank you.

Hi @Eren1462 ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you have Forgotten the admin password and cannot reset the printer. Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

For the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281cdw printer, there are a few steps you can take to reset the printer and access it without the admin password:

Perform a Cold Reset: A cold reset will restore the printer to its factory default settings, including the admin password. To perform a cold reset, follow these steps:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Press and hold the Resume button on the printer control panel.
  • While holding the Resume button, turn on the printer.
  • Continue holding the Resume button until all LED lights on the control panel are illuminated, then release the button.
  • The printer should now be reset to factory defaults, including the password.

Check the Printer Manual: Sometimes, the default PIN or instructions for resetting the printer may be available in the printer manual. You can check the manual either online or the physical copy that came with the printer.

Default PIN: The default PIN for some HP printers is often '12345678'. You can try this PIN to see if it allows you to access the printer settings.

Check Printer Documentation or Labels: Some printers may have the PIN printed on a label affixed to the printer. Look around the printer, including inside any compartments or panels, for such labels.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
