I’m dealing with a forgotten admin password on my HP 3638 All-in-One’s embedded web server. So far, nothing I’ve tried has worked.

I’ve scoured the HP Forums and attempted every suggestion I could find, but no luck resetting the password.

One thing I’ve noticed is that HP support sometimes sends private messages to people with this problem. Why is the solution not shared openly? It seems odd to keep this info under wraps.

Here’s what I’ve already attempted:

  • Held down Wireless + Cancel for a few seconds-didn’t reset anything.

  • Tried connecting via Wi-Fi Direct using the HP Smart app.

  • Attempted USB connection from my laptop.

  • Also tried accessing through Wi-Fi Direct from my laptop.

Still can’t reset or recover the admin password.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

I gave up and threw the printer away. I bought a new one from a different brand. Thanks to everyone who tried to help, but unfortunately, this time there was no solution for me.

Hi @diptis,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you have forgotten the username and password for the Embedded Web Server (EWS) of your HP 3638 All-in-One printer, you will likely need to perform a factory reset to restore default settings.

Restore Factory Defaults:

  • Locate the printer's control panel's "Setup" or "Tools" menu.
  • Navigate to "Restore Defaults" or similar option to reset the printer to its factory settings. This may reset the EWS credentials to default.
  •  Refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults.

I hope this helps.

Hi Kuroi_Kenshi,

giving up isn't an option for me.

Are the EWS-Crendentials definitely cleared by doing a factory reset? I tried it several times for my device.

I need help, please.

Hi @diptis,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're stoked to have you on board!

Thank you for reaching out, and I truly appreciate your determination to resolve this issue!

To answer your question, performing a standard factory reset from the printer’s control panel does not always reset the EWS (Embedded Web Server) admin credentials, especially on some business-class models like the HP PageWide 377dw MFP.

In many cases, the EWS admin password remains protected even after a basic or partial reset to maintain device security.

That said, we can try to assist you further. To proceed, please let us know:

The model name of your device?

The exact message you see when accessing the EWS.

If you're the original owner of the device.

Whether the printer is connected via USB, network, or Wi-Fi.

We're looking forward to helping you get back up and running!
