Hi,

I need help resetting my printer password. When I tried logging into the HP Smart app, it asked for a custom printer password, which I don’t recall . I’ve already tried my usual passwords, but none of them work.

If anyone can guide me through the steps to reset the password or even perform a factory reset if needed I’d really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Bhekumuzi,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for reaching out! If you're unable to log into your printer via the HP Smart app due to a forgotten custom password, you can reset it by performing a factory reset. This will restore all printer settings, including the password, to their defaults.

🛠️ Steps to Reset Your HP Printer Password via Factory Reset

Option 1: Using the HP Smart App

  1. Open the HP Smart app on your device.
  2. Select your printer.
  3. Go to Advanced Settings (or Printer Settings > View All > Advanced Settings).
  4. Navigate to the Settings or System tab.
  5. Look for Restore Defaults or Restore Factory Defaults.
  6. Confirm by clicking Yes.

If prompted for a login:

  • Username: admin
  • Password/PIN: Check the label inside the cartridge access area or printer door.

Option 2: Using the Printer Control Panel

For touchscreen printers:

  1. Tap the Setup or Menu icon.
  2. Go to Tools or Printer Maintenance > Restore.
  3. Select Restore Factory Defaults > Yes.

For non-touchscreen printers (like most DeskJet or ENVY models):

  1. Open the cartridge access door.
  2. Press and hold the Power and Wireless buttons for at least 3 seconds.
  3. Wait about 20 seconds, then close the door.

After the reset, your printer will restart, and the password will be cleared.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi Vikram,
I'm using a DeskJet 2630 printer, which doesn't have a touchscreen interface and is currently not connected to the HP Smart app. Because of that, I can't access the Advanced Settings menu, so Option 1 doesn't work for me.
I then tried Option 2 (for non-touchscreen printers), but that didn’t work either—I’m still being prompted for the custom password.
