Hello, I am no longer able to use the camera on my laptop. This started after updating drivers on my laptop. I am not a tech person and would appreciate any help. Thank you in advance.

Things I have tried-

uninstalling and reinstalling

rolling back to a previous driver (this option is not available to me for some reason)

Hi @ACR5,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating, but don't worry—we can work through it. Since rolling back isn't an option, here are some steps that could help get your camera working again.

Check Device Manager:

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Look for Imaging Devices, and see if your camera is listed there.
  • If it's not, or there's a yellow triangle next to it, right-click and select Uninstall device. Then, restart your laptop, and Windows should attempt to reinstall the correct drivers automatically.

Update Camera Driver Manually:

  • Go back to Device Manager, right-click on your camera under Imaging Devices, and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software to let Windows find the latest one for you.
  • If that doesn’t work, visit the HP website and search for your model. Download the latest camera driver from there and manually install it.

Check Privacy Settings:

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
  • Make sure Allow apps to access your camera is turned on, and check that individual apps like Camera have permission to access it.

Run the Hardware Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
  • Run the Camera troubleshooter to check for any problems that Windows can fix.

System Restore:

  • If these steps don’t work and the camera was working just fine before the update, you might want to try System Restore.
  • Type System Restore in the search bar, select Create a restore point, and click System Restore. Choose a restore point before the update and follow the prompts.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
