I bought a MacBook Air and hope to use my HP 1020 printer with it.  I was following the advice kindly provided by ObafemiJoshua with installation by Pacifist.  I got to the screen where HP 1020 comes up.  Remembering that HP 1022 was the driver indicated, I foolishly clicked "-" on the add screen.  I should, at this point, have clicked on USE.  I would like to start over with the installation but cannot get out of the current attempt.  No searches have been productive,  Nor have my attempts to reset printer preferences.  Trying the latter just brings me back to the same garbled install screen.  How do I break free?  I am a new Apple user.

Hi,

First, let's uninstall any existing HP Software by following the HP Uninstaller Utility below:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/HP_Uninstaller...

Next, download and install the latest drivers package from Apple below:

https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1888?locale=en_US

Finally,  open System Preferences, and then open Printers & Scanners to re-add your printer. Click the Plus sign and then from the Use drop-down menu click on Select Software, locate the Laserjet 1022 model and check if you may print.

Be aware that your printer is not compatible with Mac computer, this is a workaround which would likely allow using the printer, but not necessarily work as expected and not officially intended to work:
