HP 7900
macOS 12.0 Monterey

Running  a newish MacBook Pro with M3 chip and Sonoma 14.6.1 OS (note - had to select Monterey OS b/c Sonoma OS not on drop down menu).  Recently bought an HP 7900 Printer.  Both on wifi, no issue printing for weeks. Then I tried to print checks using Quicken 2017, and it wouldn't print anymore. Two icons popped up in the dock, Console (I'd never seen it before but contains error logs etc.) and Print Center (reading no printers available).  Restarted computer and printer.  Then successfully printed a Word document. Tried to print checks again, but same result - could not print checks or anything else.

Maybe this is a driver problem? Or an OS problem?

BTW former HP Officejet 9010, with prior iMac running Catalina 10.15, has worked with Quicken 2017  for years.  Please help!  Thanks.

Hi @joebeach,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you’re encountering issues with printing from Quicken 2017 on macOS Sonoma with your new HP 7900 printer. This issue might be related to a driver problem, OS compatibility, or specific settings within Quicken. Let’s go through some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the problem:

1. Check Printer Compatibility and Drivers

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Visit HP Support: Go to the HP Support website and search for the latest drivers for your HP 7900 printer compatible with macOS Sonoma.
  • Download and Install: Download and install the latest drivers if available.

Use HP Smart App:

  • Download HP Smart: Install the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store. This app can help manage your printer settings and ensure drivers are up-to-date.

2. Check macOS Compatibility

macOS Version:

  • Verify Compatibility: Confirm that all software and drivers are compatible with macOS Sonoma. Sometimes older applications like Quicken 2017 might have compatibility issues with newer OS versions.

Check for Updates:

  • System Updates: Go to System Preferences > Software Update and ensure your macOS is fully up-to-date.

3. Configure Quicken 2017 Settings

Printer Settings in Quicken:

  • Check Printer Configuration: Open Quicken and go to File > Print and make sure the HP 7900 is selected as the default printer.
  • Update Quicken: Ensure that Quicken 2017 is updated to the latest version. Sometimes updates fix compatibility issues.

Print Center Issues:

  • Check Print Center: Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners and ensure your HP 7900 printer is listed. Remove and re-add the printer if necessary.

4. Reset Printing System

Reset Printer System:

  • Open System Preferences: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Reset: Right-click (or Control-click) in the Printers list and choose Reset Printing System. This will remove all printers and reset your printing system.

Re-add Printer:

  • Add Printer: After resetting, re-add your HP 7900 printer by clicking the + button and following the prompts.

5. Troubleshoot Specific Errors

Console Errors:

  • Review Console Logs: Open the Console app and review any error logs that appear when you try to print. This might give you specific information about what’s causing the issue.

Check for Specific Errors:

  • Google Error Codes: If you see specific error codes or messages in Console, try searching online for solutions related to those specific errors.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
