I have a HP 2542 Deskjet. The control panel is currently on my HP laptop. How do I get the control panel on my new Chromebook so I can scan and use the other features?

@Mateer99, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your Deskjet 2542 Control panel!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
To use the features of your HP DeskJet 2542, such as scanning, directly from your Chromebook, you can follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Connect the Printer to Your Chromebook
Make sure your HP DeskJet 2542 is connected to the same network as your Chromebook or use a direct USB connection.
Wi-Fi Connection:
- Printers with a touchscreen control panel: Open the Setup, Network, or Wireless settings menu, select Wireless Setup Wizard, and follow the instructions to select the network name and enter the password.
- Printers without a touchscreen control panel: Press and hold the Wireless button for five seconds or until the wireless light starts to flash. Within two minutes, press and hold the WPS button on your router until the connection process begins. The wireless light stops flashing when the connection completes.
- DeskJet 6000 series: Press and hold the Wi-Fi button along with the Power button for five seconds until the blue bar flashes. Then, press and hold the WPS button on your router until the connection process initiates. The blue bar stops flashing when the connection completes.
USB Connection:
- Connect the USB cable to the printer's USB port and to an available port on the Chromebook.
Step 2: Add the Printer to Your Chromebook
- Update the Chromebook: Ensure your Chromebook is updated to the latest version of Chrome OS.
- Open Settings by clicking the clock in the bottom right, then the settings gear icon.
- Scroll to the bottom of the screen, and then click Advanced.
- Under Printing, click Printers > Add Printer.
- If your printer is listed: Select it and click Add.
- If your printer is not listed: Click Add Manually and follow the instructions.
Step 3: Use the Scan and Print Features
- Print: Open the item you wish to print, click the Chrome browser Settings icon (three vertical dots), and select Print. Next to Destination, click Change and select your printer. Adjust print settings if needed and click Print.
- Scan: Open HP Smart app (if applicable) or use a compatible app to scan documents.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
