Hello,

Printer: HP LaserJet M15w (connected to Wifi)

macOS: Macos Big Sur 11.1 (connected to Wifi)

Pic. 1 - macOS cannot select the driver automatically

Pic. 3 -  Setting up ‘HP LaserJet M15w (02F1F4)…’

An error occurred while trying to add the selected device.

@Valery555, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are not able to install the printer on the Mac, let us try these steps:

Check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Perform a ping test to check the connectivity

  1. Obtain the IP address of the printer by clicking on the Wireless icon on the printer
  2. Open a new Terminal window (it's located in Applications > Utilities, or you can just start typing it in Spotlight).
  3. Enter “ping” followed by the IP address of the printer.
  4. Press Return. Press ctrl C after 10 pings
  5. There should be 0% packet loss, share the results in your next post.

Install the printer using the AirPrint driver.

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Note: Select "Bonjour multifunction" under kind while installing.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi,

I have the same issue - with a Color Laser Jet Pro M254dw - on a new iMac. The printer works perfectly with the old iMac (on the same network).

I have tried everything you suggest, but to no avail. I just get the following error message when trying to add the printer:

Unable to verify the printer on your network.

Unable to connect to ‘HP Color LaserJet M254dw (3EDAE7)._ipps._tcp.local.’ due to an error. Would you still like to create the printer?

If I continue anyway I get the message:

An error occurred while trying to add the selected device.

Unable to communicate with the printer at this time.

It automatically lists my location as United States but changing this hasn't helped. It defaults to Secure AirPrint, and selects Bonjour under 'Kind'.

Also, I cannot download new firmware as the iMac disables this option with the message that it can't be sure it's not malicious as it needs to be updated by HP.

Many thanks for any help you are able to provide.

@BIGLTD

To assist you better, are you using a private network or a guest network? Let us try these steps:

Do you have an Anti-virus/firewall installed on the Mac? If yes, disable the same for time being.

You may check this in System Information > Applications.

Restart the wireless router, the printer, and the Mac

  • Make sure the printer and the Mac are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both the networks.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Also, check for any software updates on Mac

Click the Apple icon > About This Mac > Software Update and install any available update.

Uninstall the printer as shown in this document and reinstall using the AirPrint driver - Printing with Apple AirPrint (Mac)

Let me know how it goes.
