Had this HP printer that was able to do all '3 functions. (i.e., print, copy and scan) on my Windows 10 PC.

New HP windows 11 PC won't accept scanned documents.

Please help.

Hi @drk11412,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP 4650 was fully working on Windows 10, but the new Windows 11 PC won’t accept scanned documents. Let’s try a few checks to get scanning working again.

Confirm the printer is using HP Smart
Install/open the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store.
This app is required for full scan features on Windows 11.

Make sure your PC and printer are on the same network
Connect both to the same Wi-Fi band (2.4 GHz is recommended).
Open HP Smart and confirm the printer shows as “Connected”.

Install the full printer drivers (not just basic print drivers)
Open HP Smart > Printer Settings > Advanced Settings.
If prompted to download “Full Software and Drivers”, complete the installation.

Run the Windows Scan test
Open the Windows Start menu and search for “Windows Scan”.
If it detects your printer, try a scan to verify the link.

Enable scan access in the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS)
In HP Smart > Printer Settings, open “Advanced Settings”.
Go to Scan > make sure “Scan to Computer” or network scan settings are enabled.

Turn on “Scan to Computer” from HP Smart
HP Smart > Printer Settings > Scan to Computer.
Switch it ON and save changes.

Temporarily disable firewall during testing
Some firewall settings can block scan communication.
Turn it off briefly, test a scan, then turn it back on.

Restart both devices after changes
Power off the printer for 30 seconds, restart the PC.
Reopen HP Smart and try scanning again.

I hope this helps.
