HP Photosmart 5510
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After a reinstall of Windows 10 , I tried to re-install the current drivers. The installation stops with an error -536870141, reporting it can' t find an .inf file at c:/users/user/program files/HP/etc.. As far as I can see, the driver unpacks to c:/users/user/program files (x86), so of course it would not find the package at the desired location. The installer then deletes the HP folder immediately, so i can't relocate it to retry. I tried to use the cd that was bundled with the printer, but it won't run under windows 10. I used e-print so far, but it has the tendency to only print 3/4 of a given pdf, leaving the lowest quarter blank.

It would be great if someone here could help me 🙂

@phoibosd Welcome to HP Community!

I understand that you are getting driver installation failed error and you have already done some preliminary troubleshooting.

Don't worry though as I have a few steps to determine the issue and find a solution as well.

Uninstall and reinstall the printer.

Let's try these steps to uninstall the printer:

Unplug the USB cable

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for the HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13 ) Restart the PC

Now go ahead and install the full feature software from the support.

Click here to download the full feature driver.

Note: Please don't connect the USB cable until it's prompted during the connection type.
