HP 5740 software will not uninstall

I have the same problem as Rab228 under "Software will not uninstall" and Asmita6658 HP supportagent's  suggestion of root level uninstall will not help. Already at step 3 in trying to unstall the software comes back with the same error message:

"Cal to DriverPackage Uninstall returned error 5 for package

'C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\hpwia_oj5740.inf_amd64_ad1248a34e6ae 108\oj5740.inf':

A caller of DriverPackageInstall must be a member of the Administrators group to install a driver package."

The printer stoped functioning from one day to the next with no reason and without any hardware or sowtware installed that may have currupted it.

Can someone please help. I have been trying for the 3rd day with all posibilities and suggestion but unable to get rid of the old disfunctional software

Thanks Shlomi for your instructions.

Before I was able to look and try them I came across a utility from Microsoft a  Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter that helps to automatically repair issues when you're blocked from installing or removing programs. It also fixes corrupted registry keys.

You will need to download the troubleshooter from their website, then run it. It does work like a treat
