Product: HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 All-in-One Printer

My non-HP ink cartridges worked, then didn't.  I assume there was an auto update that enabled Dynamic Security.  How do I get to a prior firmware to disable it? Is there another way?

 

HP doesn't let you know they are locking you in to their exhorbidently priced ink cartridges so I assume they put their profits ahead of customer experience and satisfaction.  They can make up all of the rationalization they want but if they believed in what they are doing then they would be open about it and let the customer decide.
