7520
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Hello.

My HP Photosmart 7520 is not printing black ink when I attempt to print any files from my laptop.

I am using Macbook Pro 2017 with BigSur.

I have tried printing pdf files and pages documents both using the "color" setting and the "black and white" setting ("Greyscale" in adobe pdf viewer as well).

I have also tried copying documents but the black parts do not show up.

I have tried the following fixes in this order:

- Check for updates (no updates found)

- Align Printer

- Print Quality Diagnostic report

- Replaced every single ink cartridge with a new genuine HP cartridge (bought from staples)

- Manually cleaned the printhead following this video's instructions

- Align Printer again

- Print Quality Diagnostic report again

- Deleted printer from my laptop settings

- Added printer back on my laptop settings.

I should note that colors can be printed fine and curiously enough the Print Quality diagnostic is showing the black text. It also shows the "photo" box with a scale of black/grey however the "black" box is empty and you can see in the test print page I made that the black ink is not being printed.

Please help!

I have attached photos of the reports and of a test page I did0000test-print.jpeg0000.jpeg000-align print.jpeg

@zfzfzfzf, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand you are not able to print in black.

Thank you for the detailed information. I appreciate your efforts in trying to resolve this issue by performing the necessary troubleshooting steps.

Update the printer firmware

Click here to download and install the latest printer firmware from your Mac.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

As the printer is not able to print black on test pages and also on copies, I'm afraid this is a hardware issue. Since you have already replaced the ink cartridge and the issue persists, it could be the printhead that is defective.

Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

If the printer is out of warranty, I suggest you upgrade the printer. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.
