HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e All-in-One Printer

My HP Officejet Pro 8028 randomly prints on its own and will print until the paper is used up.   It prints gibberish.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer.  checked all printer security, disabled print share but can not fix it.  I recently uninstalled adobe acrobat to see if that could be the issue.  I have run print Dr as well. This is extremely annoying and frustrating and a waste of ink and paper.  If anyone has any suggestions, please help.

Hi @bcsac

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP printer, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today. It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 8028e is having some serious printing issues, possibly due to a driver conflict, a software issue, or a network-related problem. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:

1. Reset the Printer

  • Power off the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer and from the electrical outlet.
  • Wait for at least 1 minute to ensure all residual power is drained.
  • Plug the printer back in and power it on

2. Check for Active Print Jobs

  • Cancel any pending print jobs from the printer queue on your computer. Check this from:
    • Windows: Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners > select the printer > Open queue.
    • Mac: Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > select the printer > Open Print Queue.
  • Clear all print jobs to avoid any corrupted jobs printing on their own.

3. Update Printer Drivers and Firmware, Click here

Follow the instructions on the HP website carefully to install both the drivers and firmware.

4. Disconnect the Printer from the Network

  • Disconnect from Wi-Fi: Go into the printer settings, and disconnect it from your wireless network temporarily.
  • Test with a direct USB connection: If the issue doesn't occur when connected via USB, it might be related to the wireless or network settings.

5. Reset Printer Settings to Default

If you haven’t tried resetting the printer settings, it might help:

  • Access the printer's Settings/Control Panel and look for an option to reset it to factory settings. This can sometimes clear out any corrupted configuration that’s causing the printer to print on its own.
  • If there’s an HP Smart App installed on your computer, try to reset the connection from there as well.

6. Disable Web Services / Cloud Printing

  • Go to the printer's web interface (you can access it by typing the printer's IP address into a browser).
  • Disable any Web Services or remote printing features that could be causing print jobs to come through without your command.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
