HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The scan buttons on the panel of the 8600 printer stopped working after upgrading to Windows 10.  I uninstalled the printer, and reinstalled it to see if that would help using the drivers for Windows 10 64 bit directly from the HP site, but that hasn't helped.  I tried all connections - USB, wireless and ethernet - nothing helps.  I went into the Device Manager and see it listed under multifuntion adapters, but they show disconnected (and related to the previous installation that I uninstalled).

I can print to it, and I can us the HP software to scan, but I cannot use the buttons to scan.

Please help.

Hello @HeatherLA – Hope you are well 🙂

Thanks for reaching out! I’d like to help!

I see that you are having issues while scanning from the printer control panel. But the printer scans using the HP software on the computer. This can happen while the drivers are not properly installed on the computer. I understand that you tried installing the drivers, but let’s try the following way and check:

  • Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL40120/bi-108858-4/OJ8600_1315-1.exe to download and install the printer drivers.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
  • Once done, again restart your printer and computer and try scanning again.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Thanks & have a great day 🙂

This was the solution! This file has the exact same name as the file I downloaded from the HP site for Windows 10, 64 bit, but the one on their site did not work.  This one was perfect.  The buttons are fixed.  Thank you!
