Hello,
I'm facing a "One or more cartridges appear to be damaged" on brand new original Magenta and Cyan cartridges. My printer is an HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a that's been running fine since 2014.
This printer has always been fitted with authentic HP cartridges since new. The printer was running well, including color printing, until these two cartridges went empty - replacing them with the new cartridges resulted in this error. The successful color prints were printed a couple of days prior to the cartridge change, so I guess its not due to dry-ink issues.
On facing this error, I replaced the Yellow cartridge too, which it detected properly and shows the gauge as full.
Strangely, switching back to the old pair Magenta and Cyan pair brings up the same error. It can't be a contact-connectivity issue, since the printer detects every swap of the cartridges, correctly notifying me that they're either previously-used or previously-empty ones. Note that the 2 error cartridges were made in Singapore, while the successful Yellow cartridge is made in China. Does that indicate a bad batch or incompatibility? All 3 cartridges have warranties valid until next year. The cartridges are also valid for my zone (z20). The printer has printed just 9000 pages so far.
Ive read through the other similar issues on this forum, so tried to update the firmware (its currently running CLP1CN1829AR, which is old) but I'm unable to since the printer status is always 'Busy' due to the cartridge issue.
My question is: Is upgrading the firmware the right course of action? If so, how do I force the printer to a ready state with bad/defective cartridges just enough to force the update? Also, any other ideas?
Regards,
Su.
