When I print Web Access Test Results for my HP 8730 printer, it reports "This printer is currently configured with a Domain Name System (DNS) server address which does not allow the DNS server name to be confirmed". I have seen similar posts on this forum dated from over two years ago, where the suggestion is to use Google' DNS servers 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4 - however that does not resolve the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the advice. It did not solve the problem. But in the meantime I have found the correct solution -- namely the printer was using a DNS server IP address that did not support secure DNS; and the solution was 1) to change to another DNS server address, AND 2) power cycle the printer so that it loaded that new DNS server IP address from the router via DHCP

@AndrewFG1, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.

Are you trying to connect the printer to a wireless network?

Do you have access to a personal router?

Do you have other devices connected to this network which are working fine?

The DNS server address is auto-assigned to the printer by your router. We do not have to change it.

  • Restart the router, the printer, and the PC

On the printer screen, go to Setup > Network Setup > Restore network settings

Go back to Network > Wireless > Wireless setup wizard and select your network.

  • Make sure the printer and the PC are connected to the same wireless network. Either 2.4 or 5GHz network.
  • If you have a Dual-band router and both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks share the same name/SSID, the printer will not be able to connect to the network. In this case, contact your Internet service provider to assign different names to both networks.

Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes.
