Failing to find help with "filter failed" issues I tried installing new driver software:

I tried the procedure described by SchlomiL here

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/Driver-for-Photosmart-8750-on-Mac/td-p/...

"Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences.
Select Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl + click) your product in the Printers list in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system.
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type your user Name and Password.
Click OK. The printing system resets.

Next, download and install below drivers package:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/ASU/HPPrinterDrivers5.1.dm...

Finally, ensure the printer is powered on and connected to your Mac.

Click the Apple icon and select System Preferences.

Click Printers & Scanner and press the plus sign.

Select your listed printer, within the Use drop-down menu be sure to select the HP Photosmart 8700 series and press the Add button."

Now try printing to ensure its functionality.

Ah, forgot that I also tried this solution yesterday  but was left with the same error:

I still get the "Stopped - 'filter" failed, 1 page ERROR

The one thing I could not do was select "AirPrint" because its not offered on my Mac

Make sure the printer is installed using AirPrint driver:

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name with Bonjour multifunction under kind.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

6.) Try to print.

The solution is to download this package which will update drivers AND THE CERTIFICATE:
ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-printer-essentials-S-5_14_8_4.pkg

Easy Admin did nothing. Easy Startup did nothing. 5.1 drivers did nothing. This worked for me!

Hi Bryan

Thanks for your help

Strange things happen in the world of IT!

I had followed all the fixes I mentioned, unplugged, reset, reinstalled, restarted etc. and still the same error appeared.

Next day I printed a text file and not worked, then I tried the original [failing] PDF and it worked again, go figure!

However I am very grateful for your helpful suggestion and will keep a note of it in case the issue reoccurs.
