HP Advanced Settings Security

I just set up a security password for Advanced Settings in Embedded Web Server. It is so secure that I typed the exact same password in 4 seconds later and am now locked out of my own account with no apparent way to reset that password. This printer is a couple of years old so it is out of warranty, therefore I cannot contact HP without giving them money to fix this issue. Any pointers on what to do other than toss this thing in the trash and buy another brand.
