Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

I just got a new HP DeskJet printer and am trying to connect it to my laptop.  I downloaded the HP AiO app onto my windows 8.1 laptop and it downloaded just fine.  But now when I try and open it to add my printer, the app closes every 3-5 seconds and won't stay open.  Is there something I am doing wrong? Why won't the app stay open?

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:  

To get the answer to this question, HP smart is available only for Windows10 not for Windows 7 or 8.1.
