I am installing a DeskJet 2700e, and the screen says the System BIOS update failed,  Unable to open BIOS image file. There is a countdown, and the screen goes black and kicks back on with the same message over and over.

When an HP DeskJet 2700 gets stuck in a firmware loop, it is usually because the internal memory (NVRAM) is locked up, or the printer lost its Wi-Fi connection mid-update.  Because this model lacks a touchscreen, a stalled update typically manifests as all the panel lights flashing or a cycling error on the tiny LCD screen.   Possibly one of these reset steps will work.  Let me know which one, if any, help.

Reset the 2720

  • Disconnect the power cable while the printer is on.
  • Press and hold the power button and cancel button together and plug the power cable simultaneously.
  • Continue to hold for 20 seconds and let go the buttons and allow the printer to initialize

Maybe this will work:

1 hold down paper feed and color copy button for 5 seconds then power off
2 while holding down, turn power back on and keep holding down for 5 more seconds.

All software is here and all manuals are here
