hello!

i bought a new cartridge set when the kit ones were empty.

it is a compatible set i bought on Amazon and it works fine for what i need to do.

so what do i do with the old ones?

1 sent to recycling

2 keep them in order to keep some chip in case compatibility suddenly restricted

3 remove the chips myself to save space (is it easy?)

4 other

thanks!

Hi @astro0

I understand the situation clearly, and it’s great that your new compatible cartridges are working fine for your HP Color Laser 150nw.

Glad you want to recycle the HP cartridges.

Let’s go through the options you mentioned:

Sending to recycling (Option 1)
This is the best and most responsible choice. HP provides a free recycling program where you can return used cartridges safely. You can use the HP Planet Partners program to recycle your old toner cartridges:
HP Planet Partners – Return and Recycling
This ensures the materials are reused properly and avoids unnecessary waste.

Keeping old cartridges for chips (Option 2)
This will not help. The chips on toner cartridges are not reusable in a way that would restore compatibility. They are designed to work only with the original cartridge they came with.

Removing chips yourself (Option 3)
This is not practical. The chips are integrated into the cartridge design and removing them won’t save meaningful space or provide any benefit. Attempting to remove them could damage the cartridge or create waste that cannot be recycled properly.

Other (Option 4)
Some local e‑waste centers also accept toner cartridges.
