HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281cdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I installed the latest firmware update via wifi on the printers touch screen.

Afterwards, the printer would boot up then give error 79 then shutdown.

When the printer boots, it doesn't even get to the main menu before giving the error and restarting.

We deleted all remaining jobs in queue.

We also removed its device from all of the pc's and laptops that use it, but the error still shows up.

I was told that I would have to roll back to or install a previous firmware version.

However, I was not given any link to download said firmware, or any information on how to rollback the firmware.

That information isn't listed on your website either.

Printer model:  HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281cdw

Firmware version: 20201021

I updated the firmware over a month ago when it came out (10-21-20), and the printer has been in-operable since then.

Hi @Schmitzllc,

I'd like to help!

  • The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
  • I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
