@MNGINAUSTIN, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

When your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281cdw printer is not recognized by your laptop, it can be due to various reasons including connectivity issues or configuration errors. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

Check Connection Method: Ensure that you are using a consistent and correct connection method (USB, wireless, or wired). If you're using a wireless connection, confirm that both your laptop and printer are connected to the same network.

Restart Devices: Turn off your printer and laptop. Wait a few seconds, then turn them back on. This can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.

Update Printer Drivers: Visit the HP Support website and ensure that you have the latest drivers installed for your printer. Update the drivers if necessary.

Check Printer Status: Confirm that the printer is not in an error state. Check for any error messages or blinking lights on the printer console that might indicate a problem.

Network Configuration: For wireless connections, ensure that the printer is correctly connected to the network. Run the Wireless Network Test diagnostic from the printer's menu to check connectivity.

Firewall Settings: Sometimes, firewall software might block the printer connection. Ensure that your firewall settings are configured to allow printer connectivity.

Re-add Printer: Go to the 'Devices and Printers' section on your computer, remove any existing instances of your printer, and re-add it. Use the 'Add a printer' wizard to find and connect to your printer.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
