With a normal Fritzbox as a Gateway in a office/home network the printer can't access the internet. The IP's for the Gateway and DNS must remain the same like on all other computers in the network. Why is that so?

Hi @Jennes,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M282nw Internet Connection Issue!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
1. Verify Network Configuration
Ensure the network settings on the printer match the network configuration.
Check IP Address Settings:
- Access the printer’s control panel.
- Navigate to "Setup" > "Network Setup" > "Wireless Settings" or "Ethernet Settings".
- Confirm the printer’s IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway match those set on the Fritzbox.
DNS Settings:
- Ensure the DNS settings on the printer match those used by other devices in the network.
- Navigate to "Network Setup" > "DNS Configuration".
- Set the primary and secondary DNS addresses to match the network's DNS settings.
2. Print Network Configuration Report
Print a network configuration report to diagnose network-related issues:
- From the control panel:
- Go to "Network Setup".
- Select "Print Network Configuration".
- Review the report to ensure IP settings are correct and consistent with the network configuration.
3. Check Fritzbox Configuration
Verify the Fritzbox configuration to ensure it correctly routes and manages network traffic:
Access Fritzbox Settings:
- Open a web browser and enter the Fritzbox IP address to access the admin interface.
- Log in with administrator credentials.
Check DHCP Settings:
- Ensure the DHCP server is enabled if your network uses dynamic IP addressing.
- Verify that the IP range allocated by DHCP includes the printer’s IP address.
Check Firewall Settings:
- Ensure the Fritzbox firewall settings do not block the printer’s IP address or network traffic.
- Allow necessary ports for printer communication (e.g., port 80 for HTTP, port 443 for HTTPS).
4. Update Firmware and Drivers
Ensure the printer's firmware and drivers are up-to-date to avoid compatibility issues.
Kindly refer to this link to update your printer firmware.
Update drivers:
- Download the latest driver compatible with your operating system from the HP Support website.
I hope this helps.

Hi @Kuroi_Kenshi,
this was exactly what I did step by step. The network configuration is a local company network. The fritz box does not provide DHCP-ip`s, so that if there might by misadministration the printer would not be in the local network and not even print. BUT the printing works well and all other computers and devices do work as well and do have specific ip-adresses like the printer does have too. At the end I did even the Firmware update on the printer but it still does not get the internet connection, not even if I change the DNS from the Gateway-IP to an official DNS-server. Why is that so?!

@Jennes, Thank you for your response.
I see you were interacting with @Kuroi_Kenshi, however, he's away for now and I'd love to help you out.
Thanks for your detailed follow-up and for confirming that you've already followed the suggested steps thoroughly.
Given your setup, a local office/home network using a Fritzbox with static IP addressing and no DHCP, and all devices including the printer functioning locally, the core issue appears to be why only the printer cannot access the internet, despite valid IP, gateway, and DNS configuration.
Let’s explore a few deeper possibilities:
Fritzbox Routing and Access Rules
While printing works locally (within the LAN), internet access relies on outbound routing, which may be affected by Fritzbox’s access controls or network isolation settings.
Please check:
Access Profiles / Parental Controls:
- Log into the Fritzbox admin interface.
- Navigate to "Internet > Filters" > Access Profiles.
- Ensure no profile or restriction is applied to the printer's IP address or MAC address that would block internet access.
- Fritzbox may block internet traffic for certain devices while still allowing LAN traffic.
Device Type Recognition:
- Under "Home Network > Network", find your printer.
- Ensure it’s not labeled as a "guest" device or placed in a restricted VLAN or guest subnet.
Firewall or NAT Configuration
- Confirm that the Fritzbox NAT/Firewall is not blocking outbound HTTP/HTTPS traffic (ports 80 and 443) for the printer’s IP.
- Try temporarily disabling the firewall on the Fritzbox to test internet access from the printer.
Incorrect or Incomplete Static IP Settings
Even with static IPs, it’s easy to overlook:
- Subnet mask mismatch: Ensure it's the same across all devices (e.g., 255.255.255.0).
- Gateway & DNS: You’ve tried both gateway IP and public DNS (like 8.8.8.8); double-check there are no typos or format issues on the printer interface.
- IP conflicts: Even though rare, ensure no duplicate IP is used elsewhere on the network.
Test Printer Connectivity to External Network
Let’s test if the printer is trying to connect out:
On the printer, go to "Reports > Network Summary" or "Network Diagnostics".
- Run a ping test (if supported) to:
- 8.8.8.8 (Google DNS)
- hp.com
- The gateway IP
If ping to gateway works but not to internet, it confirms the Fritzbox isn’t routing the printer's traffic.
Firmware Bug (Rare, but Possible)
Although firmware was updated, in some rare cases, network stack bugs persist. If you’re comfortable:
- Try a factory reset of the printer’s network settings.
- Reconfigure the static IP.
- Attempt connection again with a public DNS like 8.8.8.8.
I hope this helps!
