I have the HP Deskjet 4800 Printer. In the HP Smart App, the 'Status' states that the HP Cartridges are installed. However, its installation status is 'not installed'. The 'connection status' is 'active'. Whenever I try to print it doesn't work. The printer needs to be installed first apparently. There is a prompt stating that the printer is "detected but not completely installed on your Windows system". But when I try to do so in the settings (as the HP Smart App prompted me to do so) it doesn't work. It says that I should try again or check with the manufacturer for additional setup steps. I've tried everything I could think of, installing the drivers and whatnot but it still doesn't work.

Hi @katrina342,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Dealing with printer installation issues can be frustrating, but let's try to troubleshoot and resolve the problem step by step.
Check Hardware Connections:
- Ensure that all cables are securely connected between the printer and your computer.
Restart Devices:
- Restart your printer, computer, and router. Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.
Update HP Smart App:
- Make sure you have the latest version of the HP Smart App installed on your computer. If not, update it from the respective app store.
Update Printer Drivers:
- Visit the official HP support website and download the latest drivers for your HP Deskjet 4800 printer. Install the drivers on your computer.
Remove and Reinstall the Printer:
- Open "Settings" on your computer.
- Go to "Devices" and then "Printers & scanners."
- Find your HP Deskjet 4800 printer, select it, and click "Remove device."
- Disconnect the printer from your computer.
- Reconnect the printer and follow the on-screen instructions to reinstall it.
HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor utility from the HP website. This tool can diagnose and resolve common printing problems.
Check for Windows Updates:
- Ensure that your operating system is up-to-date by checking for Windows updates.
Firewall/Antivirus:
- Temporarily disable your firewall and antivirus software to check if they are blocking the printer installation process. If this solves the issue, you may need to add exceptions for the HP software in your security software settings.
Check for Multiple Printers:
- Make sure there are no duplicate printers listed in the "Printers & scanners" settings. If there are, remove the duplicates and reinstall the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
