HP DeskJet 4155e All-in-One Printer

For a while my printer doesn't want to print color. It came out of nowhere, I didn't mess with any of the settings.

The cartridges are both (black and color) nearly full.

I already tried re-installing everything five times.

If I print a test report using the HP Smart app on my laptop it works, it prints in color. But if I try to do it using one of the Mac OS programs, Adobe Acrobat, Google Chrome it always prints in grey tone no matter what.

Hi @gardenistamama,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 155e is experiencing a common issue where it prints in grayscale even when the color cartridges are full. Since the test report prints in color through the HP Smart app, the printer itself is functioning correctly, but the problem lies with the settings in the applications you're using. Here are some steps you can take to resolve the issue.

Check Application Print Settings

  • Adobe Acrobat:
    1. Open the document in Adobe Acrobat.
    2. Go to File > Print.
    3. In the print dialog, look for a Properties or Preferences button near the printer name.
    4. Under the Color tab, select Color instead of Grayscale or Black & White.
  • Google Chrome:
    1. Open the document or page you want to print.
    2. Click the three-dot menu in the upper right corner and select Print (or press Ctrl + P).
    3. In the print preview window, click on More settings.
    4. Ensure that the Print in color option is selected.

Check System Print Preferences

  1. Go to System Preferences on your Mac.
  2. Click on Printers & Scanners.
  3. Select your HP DeskJet 155e from the list on the left.
  4. Click on Options & Supplies.
  5. Go to the Driver tab and check that the Color Options are set to allow color printing.

Reset Printing System

If the above steps don't work, you may want to reset your Mac's printing system:

  1. Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  2. Right-click (or Ctrl + click) in the printer list and select Reset printing system.
  3. This will remove all printers from the list, so you'll need to re-add your HP DeskJet 155e afterward.

Update Printer Drivers

Ensure that your printer drivers are up to date:

  1. Go to the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
  2. Download and install the latest drivers for Mac OS.

Try a Different Application

If color printing still does not work from Adobe Acrobat or Google Chrome, try printing from a different application (like Preview) to see if the problem is specific to those applications.

Check for Print Spooler Issues

Sometimes, issues with the print spooler can affect printing:

  1. Open the Activity Monitor on your Mac.
  2. Search for CUPS processes, and if you find any, try quitting them.
  3. Restart your printer and try printing again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
