HP Deskjet 2622
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there,

I can't print via wi-fi using my HP Deskjet 2622 printer.
Here is some context:

2 COMPUTERS AT HOME.

- computer 1 / Windows10, version 20H2 / can print over wi-fi

- computer 2  / Windows10, version 20H2 / cannot print over wi-fi (ironically : this is an HP Envy laptop 🙂

- both computers connected to the same router and network (either a 2.4Ghz or a 5Ghz wi-fi access / there are 2 networks available)

As stated right above, the setup is pretty much the same : same operating system, same home wireless network (5 Ghz).
I installed the printer on both computers via HP Smart, downloaded from the Microsoft Windows Store.
The printer *IS* recognized by HP Smart. It also shows up properly under Windows settings --> Printers --> HP019B5E (HP Deskjet 2600 Series)

But for some reason, I keep getting (very quickly) a printing error message on computer2, as a windows10 notification.
That computer is in French, but the message reads along the lines of "The printer reported a printing issue status"

------------------------------

I pretty much did everything I could to troubleshoot the issue, but none of the below steps helped at all:

  • I obviously deleted all previously known printers/peripherals first
  • HP Print & Scan Doctor --> no issue detected
  • I checked all firewall settings/ports via this HP article, activated all of those, created rules for missing ones, etc
  • I turned off the firewall temporarily, tried to print
  • I stopped the SPOOL service, deleted all printers showing in windows/system32/spool/printers
  • I installed the printer via the manual drivers package (as opposed to via HP Smart) : the printer showed up under a slightly different name, but I still go this printing issue windows notification
  • I looked into Windows registery, tried to see if some weird process was launched at Windows startup

Again, none of the above worked. I consider myself to be more of a power-user than a casual user, still, I'm getting crazy as I can't find any solution.

Printing via wi-fi goes totally fine with Computer1, but also via our mobile phones using the HP app.

Complete mystery.
HELP!

Thanks.

Hi @Holicool,

I'd like to help!

I understand you are unable to connect the printer and computer.

The HP DeskJet 2622 All-in-One Printer supports connections using a 2.4GHz network only.

I recommend you reach out to your ISB team and get the network split between 2.4 and 5GHz.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to reply. It doesn't solve the issue though.
Some context:

  1. I actually "paired" the printer to my router via WPS. My router broadcasts 2 networks : 1 in 2.4Ghz, 1 in 5 Ghz.
  2. The computer that can actually print without any hassle is connected to the 5 Ghz network. That's why I got a bit confused with your message, but still, I decided to give a try to your proposed solution.
  3. On the computer that cannot print at all, I tried both to print via the 5Ghz and the 2.4Ghz network. No luck: still the same (almost instantaneous) message that tells me that the printer reports an "error state". Without any more details sadly...

To sum up : 2 computers, same OS, same drivers, same router.
- One can print (over 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz network). Mobile phones can print too!
- Once cannot print at all (the HP laptop)

I'm totally puzzled.

Try the steps to the printer in an error state message.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to check connectivity

Download a special version of HP Print and Scan Doctor specifically created to help with printer offline conditions.

  1. Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  2. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
  3. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.
    • If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.
    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  4. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.
  5. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

Set a manual IP-

To set a manual IP and try the steps below -

--->Touch on the wifi icon ((i)) on the printer, and take down the IP address

--->Open a web browser (ex Chrome or Mozilla) and type in the printer's IP

--->then go to network ---> general ---> network protocols ---> select IPV4 only-->apply

--->go to wireless ---> wireless 802.11---> select manual ip ---> apply

--->Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.

--->then go to settings on the main ews page --> power management ---> select sleep mode to max 15min

Connect the printer to TCP/IP port

--->Touch on the wifi icon ((i)) on the printer, and take down the IP address

a. Click Start/Devices and Printers.  Right-click on your HP Printer.  Select Printer Properties.  Select the Ports tab at the top.

b.    Select Add Port.  Select Standard TCP/IP Port.  Select New Port.

c.    Follow the Add Port Wizard.  Under Printer Name or IP Address, .  Example:  192.168.1.15.  The IP address will be copied under Port Name.

d.    Select Next and Finish the Wizard.

Let me know how this goes!
