I am having trouble installing my printer.   I downloaded the installation software from HP, ran it, but when I got to the screen shown below, I connected the printer via USB and nothing happens.  Is it supposed to detect that it is connected and indicate that on the installation program?  It won't let me go to the next screen.

@NCDougD, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Once on this screen, you will have to connect the USB cable between the printer and the PC.

Make sure not to use a USB hub and connect the cable to a USB 2.0 port on the PC.

You may try connecting the cable to different USB ports and check if the PC detects the printer.

Try using a different USB cable.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Check for any pending windows update and try again.

Go to device manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers and check if the printer is detected.

You may also check under Imaging devices.

In control panel, the printer is listed: HP DJ 2600 series.  I tried the "Troubleshoot" option and it couldn't identify the problem.

The HP Print and Scan Doctor  was able to print a page

I don't see anything called "Printer" under Device Controller > Universal Serial Bus Controllers

I tried printing from Word 2010 and there is a document sitting in the queue that won't print.

The printer's status in Word is "Offline: 1 document waiting"  I do not see an option to put the printer online

Also... I just went to the printer queue and chose Printer > Use Printer Offline to uncheck that menu item.  "Use as Default Printer" is already selected.    Then it tried to print, but the status off the document went to "Error - Printing"

Try connecting the USB cable to a different USB port on the PC and check if that helps.

Perform clean reinstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
  2.  Select your HP Printer
  3.  Select Uninstall
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
  10.  Select Ok
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Try printing.
