thanks for that

One point which I've just tested and not previously mentioned....the scanner works. Easy Scan.

On point 1 in your previous reply, it goes to a link which looks a bit odd as it's not an official HP site.

@kw29me

I have checked the link and it redirects you to a HP document that tells you how to reset the printing system on the MAC.

Have you tried the steps and are you able to print and scan now?

Keep me posted.

I've reset the printing system but it hasn't fixed the problem.

The scanner works ok. The iMac is seeing the printer, but not printing.

If I try to print a document, I click on Print, the printer icon appears in the dock, and if I click on that icon I get one of these progress bars. It will start to display 'Printing' through to 100% and then finish....even though it doesn't actually print anything.

When it stops, it says 'Waiting for printer to become available' as below.  If I click on the X at the end of the line, the whole line disappears and everything else moves up, and the top one will automatically start "Printing' as previously. When it finishes it will also say "Waiting for printer to become available".

.

But nothing actually gets printed.

I've tried to attach an image to this post, but the feature doesn't seem to work. It is visible when I compose the message but when I post it, you only see the blurred triangle.

@kw29me, thank you for your patience and time.

I think this issue needs some additional technical assistance that can be better provided through one-on-one interaction or a remote session with our HP Support team.

Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region for further assistance.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

I have the exact same issue on my mac with Sierra, my wife's mac laptop on High Sierra.  Is it possible that the last round of drivers for the 1510 don't work.  I can scan and copy from the printer, and it even works on my daughter's chromebook perfectly, so I don't think it's the cable or the printer itself.

I followed all the steps you listed above.

Also, in HP technical support, I don't see how to create a one on one interactive session.

Was this issue ever solved? As I have exactly the same issue as described.

Would be great to know the steps required to fix it? Thanks a lot

HI, I asked the original question.

I ended up paying to speak to an HP Support person, but they couldn't answer the question. We came to the conclusion that because the printer was several years old, it was just no longer compatible with the Mac OS.

Maybe there was a problem with drivers and software which no-one at HP had noticed, or could be bothered to sort out.

It's nice to see there are other people with the same question. Proves it wasn't just me being dumb !

I gave up trying to solve the problem, and bought a new  printer (only a cheap Canon, because I don't use it very often).

Hi, I've being trying to connect a Deskjet 1510 to my MacBook Air running OSX 11 (Big Sur). Was lent this antiquated looking kit (USB only, manual doesn't even mention OSX) while my usual printer is in for repair. I've downloaded the latest driver, the USB port recognises the printer, and the Utility app can see the printer and will print pages in the course of cleaning heads and alignment. However it won't print a test page and it won't print from my MacBook. It seems to start going through then changes to that 'Waiting for printer to become available' message. Thanks for warning me this is a dead end!

PS/ Along the way I have developed a visceral dislike for the HP Virtual Assistant!

Me again...the OP.

It's fascinating to see more and more people posting here to say they have the same problem I started with. Obviously HP still haven't noticed something's wrong or bothered to come up with a solution.

That's why I bought Canon.
