HP Deskjet 1512
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I just bought a generally overhauled HP Deskjet 1512.
2 original hp toners were included , a black and a tricolor 301 one.

now I am obviously trying to get the printer to work but I am failing hard.
first off, despite the toners being inserted correctly (the tricolor in the left slot and the black in the right slot),
on the printer the orange "there is an issue" light is lit as well as the 2 lights that indicate that both toners have low volume.
which makes zero sense since they are brand new.

second issue is the following:
I followed the hp easy start stuff, also got the hp printer itself listed as a device in the device managers, should also have the most current drivers.

however, despite definitely being properly hooked up, the usb connection between my notebook and the printer jsut isn't recognized.
which is one important step to have it usb connected at some point, so I cant really continue the setup without the usb connection being recognized.

I already tried the other usb openings, it makes no difference.
but I can definitely confirm that the usb connections on my computer are definitely fine as I use them regularly.

if possible I would for the future prefer to use the printer wirelessly, however from what I got,
this can only be changed to after the usb connection has been established.
so yeah, usb connection is not recognized, basically hindering everything.

I honestly got no idea why it ain't working.

Has someone here had similar issues and could maybe help me?
for infos on the notebook I use:

Got this one at the end of 2015 (I know pretty old by now).

Would be grateful for any help or hint you could provide!
Thank you very much in advance!

ll sound dumb but I could actually solve the issue myself. Printer works fine now.
for reference what I actually did:
first off I did all the steps listed in this thread from the "accepted answer":
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/DIFxAPI-dll-missing-HP-4520-Envy/m-p/63...

(So yeah, there probably was some wrong settings that in the end caused the issues).
so after doing this and having all traces of a printer removed, I this time did stuff in the proper order:
1. get all the stuff from the printer cd on my computer in a folder.
2. execute setup.exe
3. do all it wants,(but not installing the survey and other unneeded stuff)
4. only once it prompts you to , plug in the usb cable (obviously have the hardware side setup by now, toner in and all that stuff). it's basically the screen where it literally wont let you continue without plugging in the usb cable or actively marking a checkbox "I wanna continue without connecting it, will connect later" or soemthing like that
5. well yeah, do the stuff, download the hp easy smart thing, when prompted,. follow the flow.
6. at some point it will bring you into the setup thing a second time, where you can now only choose to isntall a new printer and another option.
youa re done at this point. close the program.
7. you can now use the printer as intended, print, scan. etc 🙂

Edit: I forgo a thing to mention:
that was about the setup. initially I had also mentioned a problem where the led lights blinked due to low toner volume (despite brand new hp original toners inside).
yeah, was a misinterpretation on my part.
there is an outer cover that can be opened. and an inner cover right in front of the toner that can be opened.

well, when I got the (ovehrauled, remind you) printer, both covers were open, there was also an indentation in one cover to fit the other, so it made sense to me that one has both covers open at once.

well, when above I tried the first test print it urged me to close the cover or it wouldnt print.
well, by hand, I held the inner black cover up and it printed, the printed stuff coming out below it.
so looking closer, there is a thing inside that actually keeps the inner cover up.
so yeah, basically had the inner cover open which normally should be shut.
so I closed it and it printed. and the blinking leds stopped too 🙂
