Hi,

I used to use my  HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer with my Windows 10 laptop but the laptop broke a year ago and my printer sat dormant until now.

I have decided to start using it again with my Windows 8 64 bit desktop PC.  I have misplaced the driver on the disc so I downloaded it but it won't install?

I keep getting a message saying

"Belkin High-Speed Mode Wireless G USB Network Adapter:

The Install Shield Engine )iKernel.exe) could not be launched.

Class not registered."

I don't use a Belkin High-Speed Mode Wireless G USB Network Adapter so I don't know why it says that? Why can't I install the driver anymore? I am confused as to why it won't work when it worked fine with my laptop? I just want to use my printer again as I need to scan a lot of photographs. 😞

I hope someone can help me.

Thanks, Frank.

Hi @frankparker

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Try these steps -

1. In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".

2. Look for HP Printer software.

3. Right-click to uninstall.

4. In the search box, type and open “Devices and printers”.

5. In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.

6. Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7. Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).

8. Click on the "Drivers" tab.

9. Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.

10. Select Ok.

11. Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.

12. Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.

13. Restart the computer.

14. Download and install the software and drivers from here.

15. Click on the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

If the issue still persists, try installing the built-in driver - HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Asmita,

Thank you for replying.  I had already uninstalled the software but I did everything you said after that, deleted it on Devices and Printers and got rid of drivers via printui.exe /s,  On top of that I got rid of the old Belkin folder from the C drive that the printer was attaching itself too (I must have used Belkin in the past but forgot about it).  I restarted and installed the downloaded driver and everything works fine now. 🙂

Thank you for your help.
