HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3520 e-All-in-One
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3520 e-All-in-One which had been working flawlessly since the date of purchase (a few years now), but just a few days ago when trying to use the e-print service, it asked for a mandatory firmware update to a newer firmware SAP1FN1942AR dated November 2019, which I installed without issues. After that, the light which can be seen from the back of the printer, which belongs to the internal power supply and which used to turn off when powering off the printer after use, now remains lighted even when the printer turns off just fine. Is that an issue or its a feature of the new firmware? Because I think that, remaining that way, the printer will use more power in stand-by mode as well as reducing the life expectancy of the internal power supply.

@wolf_, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Make sure the printer is off. If it is in sleep mode, the light will be on. A firmware update will not cause this issue.

Sleep mode automatically puts the printer into a lower-power state after a set period of time of non-use. The printer returns to its normal power state when you send another print or scan job.

A printer in sleep mode might display some of the following characteristics:

  • The control panel display is dark

  • The power light is slowly pulsing

  • The power light is dim

Unplug the power cable and check for the light. By this, we can conclude the issue.

To power off the printer, hold the power button for 3 seconds until the power button light is off.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello, thanks for the reply.

Yes, the printer is off (not sleep-mode) and the light from the internal power supply remains on, which it used to turn off along with the printer when the power button was pressed to turn it off.

After the firmware update, the light from the internal power supply remains lighted in sleep-mode and turned off states, and this makes me believe that it is still functioning even when the printer is off, consuming energy and putting some stress on the power supply. Only way to really turn it off now is by unplugging it from the wall, which I'm doing so the power supply doesn't have to remain turned on without reason and reducing its life.

This could be a hardware issue with the printer. Please reach out to the HP Technical Support team in your region regarding the service/replacement options for your printer.

You may create a case on the website to obtain a case number if required. Kindly watch this video to know how.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.
