HP Deskjet D1660
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP Deskjet D1660 works with Dell and Samsung laptops with Windows 10 64-bit

New HP Envy m laptop (17m-cg0013dx)

Plugged D1660 into USB port and instantly got a message that an HP Deskjet D1660 had been connected.

Add a Printer doesn't see the printer.

Downloaded HP Deskjet D1660 Windows 64-bit driver, rebooted computer and printer.

Still doesn't see the printer.

Tried HP Scan and Print Doctor, still doesn't see the printer.

Have disconnected and reconnected printer to all 3 USB ports.

Powered printer off/on on each port.

Rebooted computer multiple times.

Tried different methods to discover or add printer and the Deskjet D1660 model isn't listed on the list after I downloaded and installed the driver.

Not sure what to try next.

Not sure where you are getting Windows 10 driver / software for HP Deskjet D1660 Printer

There is nothing listed in Category Software and Drivers for Windows 10 - not even a document / suggestion to use Windows print drivers (add-a-printer).

Observation

If the printer is still functional on the Dell / Samsung, consider that a win.

Without even Windows Print Drivers, the printer is not going to be used on the Envy PC.

One note:

If you did not do so, during the Add-a-Printer setup, remember to click the little Update Windows box.

It takes a while - eventually, the little list updates as best it can.

Third party drivers:

There is no actual problem - you should do what you want.

That said, I do not generally recommend software I have not used, cannot test, and is from source(s) I cannot verify.

My answer remains the same - it is obviously not the one sought.

Apologies for wasting our time.
