I am trying to add my HP Deskjet F4200 to Windows 11. The standard mechanisms scanned my system and reported No Printers Found. I went to Windows and they listed all the manufacturers and models. I chose HP Deskjet 4200 Series PCL-3 (V4) as this was the closest name to my F4200. I manually downloaded & installed the driver from Windows. I was actually able to print! But it appears that the driver only treats my All-In-One as a printer and does not recognize that it has a scanner. I am able to print but not scan. Again, the driver came from Windows. I am not able to find a driver for my printer/scanner on HP.com.
When I put in HP Deskjet F4200 All-in-One Printer Series into the software and drivers download section of HP site it tells me that my system is Windows 10 (64 bit) and then tells me to go to regular Windows install.
Install the HP Printer Driver and Software provided within your operating system.
I try that and it scans and says No Printers found.
Ideas? Thanks!

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
I am guessing you have installed the Windows Print drivers -- considering that the printer is not in any way supported in Windows 11, printing is a "win". What? Windows Print drivers -- when available and they work -- support basic print function.
Scan is mechanically different from print and does require different software.
Having restored print function, the following might work for scan:
Example
Scan documents and photos: Complete scan jobs with a Windows app that works with the built-in driver.
- Windows Fax and Scan: In Windows, search for and open Windows Fax and Scan. Click New Scan, and then select your printer.
- Windows Paint: In Windows, search for and open Paint. Click FileFrom scanner or camera.
- Windows Scan app: In Windows, search for and open the Windows Scan app. If it is not listed, go to Windows Scan (in English) to install it.
HP printers - Windows built-in driver fails to install
What else?
If you find no other options, this company specializes in Scan software for unsupported printers.

VueScan – Third party software - likely not free

@Dragon-Fur -
Thanks! I am on my way out so will review all this in detail later. I did download the WIndows Fax & Scan last night but when I opened it all it said was "Connect scanner" or something similar. I am pleased to be able to print & can live without the scan on this laptop as there is another that works. Maybe time for a new printer (tank) as I hate the big bucks for cartridges! Thanks again!

You are welcome.
The Windows 11 File System is just a bit different from (for example) Windows 10.
Drivers bridge the gap between the Operating System and connected hardware. It's not enough that the Device Manager can detect the hardware. Drivers help the File System talk to the device and provide an interface to interpret what the hardware can do.
If you have something that works - "all good".
Yes, time for a new printer.
Smiling.

When an Expert such as yourself tells me that I did OK in just getting it to print in Win 11 that makes me feel pretty good. I just found the receipt - that old F4200 is 15 years old! And it was about $55. A Black cartridge is more than that now! I also appreciate the encouragement to look for a new printer. I can put the money I save not buying a new cartridge towards the printer. Thanks again !
