HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 1275
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Hi

I recently just purchased this printer and checked online first to see if it's compatible for Mac OS. After seeing a few postings/drivers showing there's compatibility, I picked one up at Office Depot. However, after updating my software, adding the printer via System Preferences +, downloading HP Easy/Smart Start, updated drivers here: https://support.hp.com/sg-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-deskjet-ink-advantage-1200-series/30334444 with firmware and driver release April and June 2021, I'm still unable to print anything. I was able to print a test page, but was unsuccessful after. Other forums says this specific model is not compatible with Mac OS (I have M1 chip, so not sure if this makes difference). I will be returning it to the store tomorrow but would really prefer not to as it's out of my way.

So is it compatible or not? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand that you are getting connectivity issues, follow these steps to fix the issue.

This printer has only a USB connectivity option, refer to this printer specification for reference:- Click here

Here are steps to connect the printer using USB cable:-

Download the HP Smart app, and then follow the instructions to set up a USB connection in macOS.

  1. If you already connected the printer USB cable to your computer, disconnect it, and then remove the printer from your computer.

Click the Apple icon , click System Preferences, and then click Printers & Scanners, Print and Scan, or Print and Fax. Select the name of your printer, click the Minus sign, and then restart the computer.

  2. Make sure an open USB port is available on your computer. Do not connect the printer to a USB hub or docking station as the printer might not receive enough power to operate properly.

  3. Go to HP Smart - Mac App Store and install the HP Smart app.

  4. Open the app, and then follow the guided installation to complete the setup. If the setup does not begin automatically, click the Plus sign to add your printer.

Hello,
Thank you for your help.
Is there any solution for this problem if my laptop does not have a USB port?
It only has USB C ports, and therefore I am using an adaptor hub to connect the printer to the laptop.

I just purchased this printer.

Thank you so much in advance,

Follow the below instructions to resolve the issue -

Try updating mac and printer firmware

To update the printer's firmware, refer - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

To update Mac, try these steps - How to update the software on your Mac

Make sure the cable is connected to a USB 2.0 port on your Mac

Do you have an Anti-virus/firewall installed on the Mac? If yes, disable the same for time being.

  1. You may check this in System Information > Applications> utility folder
  2. You can also hold down the option key and click on the Apple at the top left of the screen to get to System Information
  3.  Click System Report.
  4.   Under the Hardware heading on the left side of the System Information window, click USB. USB 3 devices appear under USB 3.0 Bus, and USB 2 devices appear under USB 2.0 Bus. The printer should be under the USB 2.0 Bus

Uninstall HP Easy Start

  • Click on the Spotlight icon and type HP Uninstaller or by opening HP Easy Start.
  • Click on Continue to uninstall the software.
  • When prompted for password, type in your system password
  • You can also uninstall by opening HP Easy Start.

Download HP Easy Start and install the printer.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hello,

Thank you for your help!

As I have mentioned in my first message, my MacBook Pro only has USB C ports (the rounded ones).
I have 2 apple adaptors, one with one USB 2.0 port and the other with multiple ports. I have tried both.
the very first time I was able to save the printer to the MacBook but it didn't print.
I was then reading another thread of solutions and as suggested I deleted printer and tried to add it again to the MacBook but it didn't work.
I am now stuck with a printer not recognized by the MacBook and cannot even try to UPDATE PRINTER as you have been so kind to suggest.
I have uninstalled HP SMART and started all over again to no avail.

In the hopes you will send me a miracle,
best regards,
ramonahijazi

Were you able to install HP Easy Start?

Meanwhile, Set up a USB printer connection with a built-in driver (Mac)

When you connect the printer USB cable, macOS automatically installs and adds your printer to provide basic printing functionality.

  1. Click the Apple icon , click System Preferences, and then click Software Update. Install any available updates, and then restart your Mac.

  2. Make sure there is an open USB port available directly on your computer. If you use a USB hub or docking station, the printer might not receive enough power to operate properly.

  3. Click the Apple icon , click System Preferences, and then click Printers & Scanners, Print and Scan, or Print and Fax.

  4. If your printer displays in the list, select it, and then click the Minus sign to remove the printer.

  5. Connect the printer USB cable to the computer.

  6. If prompted to download new software, follow the instructions to install it.

  7. Confirm your printer is listed under Printers.

    • If your printer is in the list, the setup is complete.

    • If your printer is not in the list, continue with these steps.

Example of the Printers & Scanners window with printers displaying

  8. Click the Plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, and then select the name of your printer.

Hello,

thank you for your prompt reply!

I have installed HP Easy Start and proceeded with all the steps. It did not work.

My Macbook Pro does NOT have built-in USB 2.0.

My Macbook Pro ONLY HAS USB C ports.

Therefore I cannot connect the printer without using an adaptor for the USB port.

When I try adding the printer it does not find it. It worked the very first time I did it and my laptop detected the printer. I deleted the printer because it wouldn’t print. I could not add it back after that.
