Hello, I own a HP DeskJet 4122e printer which was purchased in UK. I have moved from UK to India, and I am now trying to use genuine ink cartridges from HP purchased in India, but I am getting an 'Incompatible Cartridge' error.I already have the printer connected,  local genuine cartridge installed, and I have opened the hidden regionalization menu.  I need a Regionalization Reset for my HP DeskJet 4122e printer. I have my printer's Serial Number and the hardware codes.

To perform a printer region reset, you need to meet the following conditions:

1. The printer should be connected using a printer USB cable to the computer.

2. You need to have the printer full-feature software installed on your computer.

3. You need to have all the cartridges from either the region/country where the printer was purchased originally or the new region/country to which you want to reset it.

4. Make sure the HP App is installed too.

I notified the moderator of the problem. Some of the new HP printers allow the owner to change the region code without assistance. Look in the users manual for details including how many changes you are allowed. If you have an older printer that does not describe the regionalization process then expand the spoiler below and wait for an agent to help you.

Spoiler

Changing the region code can be difficult as described here.

When an agent contacts you ensure that the agent is familiar with the OS you are using. If the agent is in a different time zone try to get one in your time zone. If that is not possible you may need to choose the best time to make a contact.

I read that only 2, 3 or 4 region changes are allowed. It depends on which AI bot I ask.

You may need WhatsApp to work through the region reset procedure.

In any event you need to do the following:

1. The printer should be connected using a printer USB cable to the computer.
2. You need to have the printer full feature software installed on your computer.
3. You need to have all the cartridges (toners) either from the region/country from where the printer was purchased originally or, the new region/country to which you want to reset it to.
4. The cartridges must be genuine HP.
5. Make sure HP Smart or the HP App is installed.
6. If the printer is not under warranty, then the ink cartridges or toners need to be in the warranty period.

How do I find my printer's region code?

Spoiler

Method 1: Print a Printer Status or Configuration Report
Many HP printers include the region on one of their internal reports.
• Print a Configuration Report or Printer Status Report.
• Look for entries such as:
1. Region
2. Regionalization
3. Country/Region
4. Market
Some models list a numeric region code (such as 1, 2, 3, etc.), while others list a geographic region (North America, Europe, Asia Pacific, etc.).

Method 2: Embedded Web Server (network printers)
If the printer is connected to your network read this.
Some business models display the regional information there.

Method 3: Read the cartridge error
If you receive a message like:
"The indicated cartridges are not intended for use in this printer."
that usually means the cartridge belongs to a different regional market than the printer.

Thanks. I do not have a printer cable but can buy this for the region reset to take place.  I do have the right software, HP Smart app as well as genuine HP cartridges in India, the region that I would like to reset the printer to.

The HP manual does not seem to have any literature around changing the region on my own. So I guess this needs support from HP. I have been trying with HP India support on WhatsApp but they are just refusing to assist, asking me to go back to HP UK.
