@leabig, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:
Uninstall the application completely from the MAC
- Disconnect the USB cable from the printer, if necessary.
- Click Finder in the Dock.
- In the menu bar, click Go, click Applications, and then open the HP or Hewlett Packard folder.
- If HP Uninstaller is in the folder, double click it to uninstall the software, and then skip to the step to prepare the printer for the driver installation.
- If HP Uninstaller is not in the folder, continue to the next step.
- Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.
- In the menu bar, click Go, click Go to Folder, type /Library/Printers, and then click Go.
- Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.
- Right-click or Ctrl + click the Trash icon, and then select Empty Trash.
- Reboot the MAC.
Install the printer using AirPrint driver
Please ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and Mac is up to date with its software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer firmware and Mac software:
1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.
3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.
4.) Click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.
5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.
6.) Try to print. Check the Device monitor.
Let me know how this goes.

Kumar - unfortunately, this only solved my problem for a short period of time. HP Device Monitor is back at its bad behavior, taking up 30-50% of my CPU. This gets even worse when I am using Zoom. Is there a patch, or a known problem that I can report for review?

I have removed all of the HP software from my Mac which has solved the lagging issue. I will wait to hear from you before reinstalling. In the meantime, I'm unable to use the device for printing and scanning.

I too am having the same problem. I followed all the steps in both posts and my system is still slowed very significantly by this HP Device Monitor using up system resources. A fix for this HP software bug would be most appreciated.

I have done this already Kumar. The only solution to the system issue has been to completely remove all HP software from my device. Now I am without a printer until there is a fix. What is the update on your end?
