Hi @Iceshark,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP ENVY 7640 is encountering a startup issue after attempting a firmware update, which has resulted in a blue screen error. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve this issue:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Press the power button to turn off the printer. If it doesn’t respond, unplug it from the power source.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet. Wait for about 60 seconds to ensure all residual power is drained.
  • Plug the power cord back in and reconnect it to the wall outlet. Turn the printer on and check if it still shows the blue screen.

2. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer and disconnect it from any external connections like USB or network cables.
  • With the printer turned off and disconnected, press and hold the power button for 30 seconds. This helps clear any temporary issues with the printer’s internal memory.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.

3. Check for Error Codes

  • Note down any specific error codes or messages displayed on the blue screen. These codes can provide clues about what’s wrong.

4. Perform a Firmware Recovery

  • Some printers have a recovery mode for firmware issues. Check your printer's manual or HP’s support site for instructions on entering recovery mode if applicable.
  • If available, download the latest firmware from the HP Support website using another device. Follow the instructions provided for firmware recovery or reinstallation.

5. Update Printer Drivers on macOS

  • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for macOS 14.6.1.
  • Uninstall any existing printer drivers from your Mac.
  • Install the latest drivers you downloaded and try reconnecting your printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for the information.

It did not solve the problem.

After the hard reset the blue screen appeared again with the "power" icon and the 007C9C98 and then 005A1654 a little later.

I did not see any recovery mode for the HP ENVY 7640 in the manual or the support pages.

The drivers are the latest drivers
