My printer was displaying error code B8CEE440 this morning and all the lights, including the power light, are blinking. Nothing has changed in the environment. What does this error code mean.....other than turn it off and back on. Thanks,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Power resetting the printer and updating the printer firmware may resolve this issue. Let us try these steps:
Step 1: Reset the printer
1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.
Step 2: Update the printer firmware
Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.
Step 3: Check for paper jam in the printer and if the print carriage moves freely.
Step 4: If the above steps do not resolve the issue, we might have to perform a factory reset on the printer.
- The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may corrupt the device.
- I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

Thank you for your response. I did this right after I wrote to the community with my question. While this is a solution that works it still doesn't respond to my question about what/why this happens. What triggers the problem.

Glad to know the printer is working fine now. This may happen if there is any sort of miscommunication between the firmware and the hardware part of the printer. We will have to reflash/reset its memory which resolves this issue.
Keep me posted for further assistance.
