HP Easy Start stuck on "Preparing for device setup"

1. Quit HP Easy Start. A dialog box opens.

2. Click the button that says download.

3. Download sequence commences. 

 

My HP 6970 printer works well with my apple products. 

The automatic ink program is a terrible idea. HP constantly monitors the printer, even though I have those settings turned off. The printer will not work with recycled ink cartridges. If I could find another printer that works as well, I would never buy another HP printer.

This worked for me. Now it installed. HP needs to fix this bug for Big Sur

Thanks for sharing this.  I too was affected by this dodgy HP software.  Their online support agents seem entirely unaware of how bad HP Easy Start is.
