I fixed it. I downloaded the diagnostic tool under the drivers section (HPPSdr.exe). After a considerable runtime (~20 min) it came back and said that the port number was incorrect. On Settings > Devices, it still shows that the driver is unavailable for the device, though I could print a doc file from Open Office to the printer, which was my task this morning (now afternoon).
I'm not sure what the benefit of this additional abstraction is, but it's causing issues.

I also had the same problem and took the advice to run HPPSdr.exe. After a few runs, a report of an issue in Device Manager plus two restarts of the PC, the "Full" printer software would install.

The objective here is to utilize the software on my PC as a result of the installation of this software: HP OfficeJet Pro 9010 EasyStart Printer Setup Software – Offline Use Only
I am unable to install this due to the installer hanging on ... 'Checking your software needs...'
I have tried many things. Uninstalled all drivers, did a reset on the printer, did the 'winsock' thing, and even tried some of what people have suggested in this thread.
So please, if your new build of the software causes this problem but the older version does not, then ROLLBACK or provide a fix, of provide the older version of the software, so I can use my printer again.
Thanks.

Hi,
Click the Start button and type %temp% into the search bar, then open the shown Temp folder.
Open the latest HP installation folder which begins with 7z (e.g. 7zs1234)
Open the Driver folder.
Locate the setup.exe or install.exe file and double-click it to launch the installation wizard.
Now follow the installation and check for any difference.
Regards,
Shlomi
