HP smart app sees my printer and it is on line, but when I click to add it says it needs to be turned on, even though it is turned on and connected to the same Wi-Fi as my computer

@Fastran, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're facing an issue where HP Easy Start spins endlessly while searching for drivers, and HP Smart detects your HP ENVY Pro 6458 printer online but still says it needs to be turned on, despite being powered on and connected to the same Wi-Fi. Let's work together to get this resolved.
Restart Devices
- Power cycle your printer and PC:
- Turn off the printer and unplug it for 60 seconds.
- Restart your PC.
- Plug the printer back in and turn it on.
Ensure Printer is on the Same Network
- Make sure both your PC and printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network (not a guest network).
- On the printer, print a Network Configuration Page:
- Press and hold the Information button (i) until all buttons light up.
- Press the Information + Resume buttons together to print the report.
- Check the IP address and Wi-Fi status.
Bypass HP Easy Start
If HP Easy Start is stuck, download the full driver directly:
- Scroll to “Installation Software and Full/Basic Driver” section.
- Download and run the Full Feature Software and Drivers.
Reinstall HP Smart App
- Uninstall the HP Smart app.
- Reinstall it from the Microsoft Store or here - HP Smart
- Open HP Smart and sign in with your HP account.
- Add your printer again.
Disable VPN or Firewall Temporarily
- If you're using a VPN, disconnect it.
- Temporarily disable any third-party firewall or antivirus that might block HP services.
If the issue persists:
- Reset the printer’s network settings:
- Press and hold Wi-Fi + Cancel buttons for 5 seconds until the power light blinks.
- Reconnect the printer to Wi-Fi using the HP Smart app or Wi-Fi setup mode.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
