Printer went through a phase of losing connection after a print job. Turning printer on and off restored the connection, but I had to do this each time I sent a new job to the printer. Then it would not connect at all. I did a semi-complete reset. Now the printer will not initialize--screen is stuck on initializing--add printer paper. I took the black printer cartridge out and retried. Same result. I've reset the router and my computer. I've turned printer off and waited a minute, multiple times. No luck. HP Smart cannot find the printer because it will not initialize.
How do I fix this?

@GLM4, Welcome to the HP Support Community! I’m here to help.
I understand the printer is stuck. Let us try these steps:
Reset the printer
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.
If this does not help, unplug the power cable and hold the power button down for 10-15 seconds and release it. Power on the printer and check.
If the issue persists, I'm afraid this is a printer failure. There are no other steps that can be performed.
If the printer is out of warranty, I suggest you upgrade the printer. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.
