As of today my Envy 4522 is only printing in B&W.  Tried printing from Excel, Word & Adobe pdf.  Rebooted printer and laptop,  Cleaned printer heads (twice).  Seems to be ample ink in B&W and colour cartridges.  Test print, from printer, does colour.  Checked for "B&W only" settings in print properties - none found set.  My next thought is to uninstall/ reinstall the printer.

Laptop is on Windows 11.  Any thoughts/ suggestions please?

It looks like your printer hardware is fine since the test print directly from the printer does color. The issue is likely related to software settings or drivers on your Windows 11 laptop. Here are some troubleshooting steps to fix it:

1. Check Printer Preferences

  • Press Win + R, type control printers, and hit Enter.
  • Right-click on HP Envy 4522Printing Preferences.
  • Look for a Color or Advanced tab and ensure Color is selected instead of Grayscale or Black & White.

2. Check Application-Specific Print Settings

  • Open Word, Excel, or Adobe and go to Print settings.
  • Make sure "Print in grayscale" or "Black & White" is not selected.
  • Try printing from a different application (e.g., Notepad).

3. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP’s website.
  • Run it to check for printer driver or connectivity issues.

4. Update/Reinstall Printer Driver

  • Press Win + XDevice Manager.
  • Expand Print queues, right-click on HP Envy 4522, and select Update driver.
  • If updating doesn’t work, uninstall the printer:
    • Win + IBluetooth & devicesPrinters & scanners → Select HP Envy 4522Remove device.
    • Restart your PC and reinstall the printer using the latest driver from HP’s support site.

5. Try a Different USB Port or Wi-Fi Connection

If you’re using USB, switch ports. If printing wirelessly, restart your router and reconnect the printer.

If none of these steps work, let me know what you've tried, and I’ll suggest further troubleshooting! 🚀

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Hi

I'd already done most of the earlier things you suggested.   So I uninstalled the printer/ rebooted/ reinstalled and I now have colour!  So fingers crossed it stays that way.  Thanks
