I am so frustrated. My HP Envy 5055 printer one day just stopped working on my HP  laptop. I uninstalled, reinstalled. It kept saying driver not available. Redownloaded the driver, still says not available.  In HP Smart, it says printer is ready. It will not print from this computer.   I was able to print from my work computer. Now that won't work any longer either; it just says printer error. I even tried connecting the printer directly to my laptop to resolve the error using a cable; didn't help.  My printer works fine from my Mac.  Can anyone help? I contact HP support and they won't help me since the printer is out of warranty - even though I just bought it a couple years ago.  Really disappointed in this printer and in HP who won't assist.

@Miltown

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Hi Betty. For Step 2, I don't see the printer; I only see plugs in.

I would suggest you try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•    Go to Control Panel - Devices and Printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.

Betty,

I do not get a page that prompts for drivers. The printer will load with just a message that says driver is not available. This has been the issue for eight months now.

Followed the instructions - same result. Now the issue has extending to my work laptop as well. Despite the printer being online and connected to the same network, I continue to get a message that the printer is offline.

HP Recommended

Let's restore the network settings: 1. From the Home screen, touch (Wireless) and then touch ( Settings ). 2. Touch Restore Network Settings, and then follow the onscreen instructions. 3. Print the network configuration page and verify that the network settings have been reset.

Once done, try connecting the Printer to the Wi-Fi

Betty, I successfully reset network settings on the printer.

I tried to connect the printer to my HP personal laptop; it connects no problem, but continues to say driver is unavailable.

Up until yesterday, the printer worked fine on my work computer, also Windows based.

Now today, as my work computer once again would not work with my printer, I removed device and tried to reinstall after resetting network settings on my printer.

Now my work computer ALSO has the message drive unavailable.

I do not have any of these issues on my Macbook Air.

This is now going on almost 10 months of me trying to fix this error. How can this be resolved?

I'd recommend you to contact Microsoft regarding this as this is an Operating System issue.
