I apologize, knowing this must have been posted multiple times. I've just set up wirelessly the HP Envy 5660 printer with my HP Windows 11 AIO desktop pc. Drivers are up to date and all seems ok, except for the annoying pop-up notification "Scan to computer is no longer activated. The network connection to the device has been lost." which appears when I awaken the PC from sleep. It lasts for 10 sec and then disappears. I almost always scan from the PC, not the printer console, so perhaps I shouldn't be concerned. Scanning and printing work well and clearly the network connection hasn't been lost because my PC communicates wirelessly with the printer. Nevertheless, the message is annoying.
What's going on here? Thanks!!

Hi @lmwapner
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
That's alright; I have answered all your posts.
You're absolutely right to be annoyed—especially when everything works fine and this pop-up feels more like a false alarm than a real issue. The culprit here is a background utility called ScanToPCActivationApp, which is part of HP’s full-feature software suite.
It’s designed to keep the “Scan to Computer” feature active, but it doesn’t always play nicely with Windows 11’s sleep and wake cycles.
🧠 Why It Happens
- When your PC wakes from sleep, the app checks for a live connection to the printer.
- If the printer hasn’t fully reconnected yet (even for a split second), it triggers the message.
- The message disappears once the connection stabilizes—but the notification still pops up every time.
🛠️ How to Disable the Pop-Up (Without Losing Scan Functionality)
Disable ScanToPCActivationApp at Startup
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
- Go to the Startup tab
- Find ScanToPCActivationApp, right-click it, and choose Disable
- Restart your PC
Turn Off “Scan to Computer” Auto-Start
- Open HP Printer Assistant (search for your printer name in the Start menu)
- Click Print, Scan & Fax > Manage Scan to Computer
- Click Disable, and uncheck “Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log on to Windows”
- Close the window
Optional: Uninstall HP Printer Assistant
- If you always scan from the PC using the HP Smart app, you can uninstall HP Printer Assistant entirely
- Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program
- Find HP Printer Assistant and uninstall it
- Use the HP Smart app instead—it’s cleaner and doesn’t trigger this notification
The good news is that disabling the app doesn’t affect your ability to scan manually from the PC.
Let me know if you’d like help switching fully to HP Smart or customizing your scan workflow. We’ll make sure your setup stays smooth and silent! 😊
If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution! ✅ It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!
