HP Envy 6032 not coming out of Sleep Mode
Printer: HP Envy 6032
OS: Windows 10 and MacOS 11.1
Downloaded latest version of HP Smart.
Windows 10 is connected via USB cable. Mac is connected via WiFi.
When newly booted the printer works perfectly.
- I can connect via HP Smart. Printer is online and ready.
- I can print documents.
After about 5 minutes it goes into Sleep Mode (as per the manual). At least I guess it has … how can I tell?
- When I run the HP Smart, it says the printer is offline.
- Nothing happens when I try to print documents
Running the HP Smart app again, still gives the message that the “Printer is offline” but nothing seems to make it come online again.
Pressing the power button at the back has no effect.
Nor does pressing any of the other buttons
The light over the tray is blue in the middle and stationary (not pulsing or moving).
The WiFi light is lit up with solid blue.
No other lights are on.
The only way to get the printer to come back to life is to remove the power cable and reinsert.
Looking at the TP_Link router App, it confirms that the HP Printer goes offline after about 5 mins.
So if the printer is offline, and drops the WiFi connection, once it goes into Sleep Mode … how I am supposed to wake it up? Any ideas please?

I have the exactly same question and I'm even thinking about returning the printer. I didn't know it was in sleep mode as it doesn't indicate it in any way. I thought that something is wrong with the printer as I also could see it from the iPhone. Would be really interested in finding a solution so I don't have to return it

Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Power usage is reduced while in Sleep mode. After initial setup of printer, the printer will enter Sleep mode after five minutes of inactivity. Use the HP Smart app to change the period of inactivity before the printer sleeps by selecting Advanced Settings. You can also change this setting using the printer’s embedded web server by completing the following steps. To change the time to Sleep mode 1. Open the embedded web server (EWS). . 2. Click the Settings tab. 3. In the Power Management section, click Energy Save Mode, and select the desired option. NOTE: If prompted for a password, enter the PIN from the label on your printer. It might be near the cartridge access area inside the printer or on the back, side, or bottom of the printer. 4. Click Apply
Open the embedded web server You can use one of the following ways to open the embedded web server. To open the embedded web server through a network 1. From the printer control panel, press and hold (the Information button) until all the buttons light up, and then press and at the same time to print the wireless network test report and network configuration page. 2. Find out the IP address or hostname of the printer from the network configuration page. 3. In a supported web browser on your computer, type the IP address or hostname assigned to the printer. For example, if the IP address is 192.168.0.12, type the following address into a web browser: https:// 192.168.0.12.
Let me know if this helps.

I believe this would not solve the issue because the max time before the printer goes to sleep mode is 15 minutes.
- What should I do after this time when the printer is unreachable?
- How should the printer be awaken?
- Why is the printer not awaken when I send a job to be printed?
- Is there a way to manually wake up the printer? I remember that I once also tried when the printer was not reacting to hold the i (info) button and it didn't do anything, which per the user manual should light up all the buttons.

Hi Betty0610,
Thank you very much for responding.
The problem is not that the printer goes into sleep mode. Nor the time taken to go into sleep mode.
The problem is that the printer will not come out of sleep mode once in sleep mode. It won't wake up.
When it goes to sleep ...
* The printer apps say that the printer is offline.
* My linksys app says that the printer is no longer on the WiFi network (despite the printer's blue WiFi light remaining on).
* The printer is unresponsive to all button presses. Even the off button at the back has no effect.
The only solution is remove the printer cable from the back of the printer wait a few seconds and plug it back in again.
Then the printer reboots and is working again ... until it goes back to sleep, at which point it is comatose again.
How is the printer supposed to respond once it is in sleep mode? I doubt this is normal behaviour.
Many thanks for any help
